Romantic Retreat At Alila Villas Uluwatu

The last stop on my work trip to Bali in December 2017, Uluwatu, was new to me. I'd been in the area before for the famous kecak dance at the Uluwatu Temple - a must for any first time visitor to Bali that are interested in learning about Balinese culture - and spent an afternoon on one of the little beaches there. However, I had never stayed in Uluwatu before. Although I stayed with a group of travel advisors for work, I couldn't help but imagine staying for a romantic retreat at Alila Villas Uluwatu in Bali.

In general, Alila is quickly becoming one of my favorite hotel brands. I recently stayed at the newly reopened Ventana in Big Sur and at Alila Seminyak (also in Bali). The Alila hotels are sleek, sexy and modern while still feeling extremely comfortable. Alila Villas Uluwatu is entirely composed of villas ranging from one to three bedrooms, each with their own private pool and dedicated butler. The property is fairly spread out so I mainly used my butler service as transportation between the main facility and my villa. I'm sure if I had stayed longer than a night - as I would have if it wasn't a work trip - I would have used his services more! The villas also have fabulous open, communal space, whether it's in your living room or the outdoor patio. The more bedrooms you have, the more communal space there is.

Our one evening spent at Alila Villas Uluwatu, we enjoyed pre-dinner cocktails in their sunset pavilion. Uluwatu is famous for its sunsets over the imposing cliffs. The sunset covered the hotel in a gorgeous glow. After staring in awe at the sunset, we enjoyed an amazing Indonesian meal. The restaurant here, and at Alila Seminyak, proved to be some of my favorite meals!

In addition to being famous for its sunsets and cliffs, Uluwatu is known for surfing and romance. This area of Bali, the southernmost point, is a bit more secluded than other parts of Bali. If you're looking for a party, head to Seminyak. If you're looking for surfing, quaint beach cafes, rice paddies, a growing party scene and proximity to Seminyak’s bars, head to Canggu. But if you want to enjoy the luxury of an amazing hotel - with an outing or two for the kecak dance or to a hidden beach - Uluwatu is the place for you. It's a honeymooner's paradise and I would highly recommend Alila Villas Uluwatu for your stay.
